Afrikan Boy

The aim of this blog is to spread the word about NEW art and music from all different cultures. This can be from any perspective however; I won't not write about an artist if they are from a certain place but are talking about something else. After all, this is the modern world and I think it's good that people are not categorised by their nationality; instead, they can take influence from their home countries and bring it into a new sphere of ART.

On that note, I'm kicking off this blog with Afrikan Boy.

Afrikan Boy is a young MC from Woolwich, South East London, but is orginally from Nigeria. He has been championed by electro/pop/rap pioneer M.I.A and has built up a large cult following. While his songs maintain a real London vibe (and subject, often), he is tied strongly to his African roots.

A mix of rude boy London and strong Nigerian accent add to the original style he puts forward. It's also funny. Afrikan Boy has his tongue firmly in his cheek when he raps about shoplifting in Lidl, the chain of cheap supermarkets in London. I'm putting a link to his myspace below so you can check it out if you fancy. Hope you enjoy!
